Sea Power

The sea has been one of the first landscape for human civilizations who start using its power almost from the begriming.

There are different energies that can be obtain from the sea, from the tides, one of the oldest, to the waves and even the temperature gradient on oceanic sea.

• Tidal energy, is base on the difference high between hours and the big amount of water moved on that change. We can find two different ways to get improve on this property:
   
  • By direct use, that together the tide with the principle of buoyancy let to raise big and weight objects. From put ships into sea form dry dock to load big objects on ships or sea platforms.
     
  • By electric energy generation through turbines either inside docks or inside the sea.
     
• Wave Energy, The waves are a constant on some seas, specially on some seasons, something really attractive to use as a source energy. All used systems are base on the rhythm move of the sea created by tides and wind. There are plenty of types using different principles.
   
   
   
• Thermal Oceanic Energy, converts into usable energy the thermal difference from surface water to the one at 100m deep. On tropical areas this difference can go from 20 to 24 ºC, been enough a difference of 20ºC to make work this system. There are two ways to get improve of this energy:
   
  • Open circuit, this one uses the sea water evaporating it with a low pressure system to move the turbine.
     
  • Close Circuit, with a low boiling temperature fluid (ammonia, freon, propane) gets evaporated in contact with warm surface sea water. This vapour moves an turbo generator, gets condensate with cold deep water and the fluid start again the cycle. Its big problem is the low efficiency with a 7% because the low temperature of the hot point and the low difference between temperatures. Also it has to be made an extra energy use to pump of cold water for condensation.
